Use your circadian rhythms

Circadian rhythms are regular rhythms in your body that follow a 24-hour cycle, influence things such as pulse rate and body temperature

  • Thinking and learning processes also have peaks and declines.

Older adults tend to be ‘morning’ people.

  • 73% of adults over age 60 consider themselves to be ‘morning’ people.
  • Only 5% of college students consider themselves to be ‘morning’ people.
  • People perform best at their optimal time of day.

Using circadian rhythms

  • Consider your optimal time of day when planning activities. Don’t push yourself to be a night person or a morning person when you know you are not.
  • If you are a coffee drinker, have a cup of coffee at your non-optimal time of day.
